Davis Henderson - Potawatomi Voice Actor, Filmmaker, Director, Storyteller, Gun Lake Tribe member and recent graduate of Kalamazoo College - will show his 20-minute documentary film Bodewadmi Ndaw about his family's story and the struggle to keep the Potawatomi language alive. Across the US, Indigenous families were required to send their children to Indian Boarding Schools--run by Episcopal and other churches for the US government--from 1884 till 1983 for the school in Harbor Springs, Michigan. All those years, the children were punished for speaking their own language.
 
Davis connects really well with participants. Since he graduated from Kalamazoo College just a year ago, and since his film is partly about children's experience in school, this is a good workshop for youth, as well as adults of all ages. His film and his presence offer others a pathway to nurture healing and support repair of past wrongs.
