When you arrive at the Retreat Center:
The Columba Room, in the O'Connell Hall on the second floor will be open to us on Thursday at 2 pm. If you'd like to arrive early to see the space and meet other people, arrive any time 2 pm or later on Thursday. There will be a quick trip into town for dinner for any who arrive before 4:30. If you arrive and need help finding the space, you can contact Jerry at 502-541-8278. He will be ready to greet you at 2 pm.

List sent previously - preparing for our time together:

  1. Please bring drawing / coloring / art supplies that you can share. There will be time during the retreat to do these things and some will be provided, but would appreciate anything that you can share.
  2. Optional: You will be invited to share the COOLEST thing that you’re doing in your parish / diocese. Prepare 60 seconds to share.
  3. Plan on dressing in comfortable clothing and pack layers. There are plenty of areas to walk, and walking outside is required to go between lodging, meals, and the group meeting area. An umbrella or rain coat might also be a good idea.
  4. Map your way to Nazareth Retreat Center: 40 West Drive, Nazareth, KY 40048
  5. Bring your own cup / mug / water bottle. This will save myriad resources.
  6. Bring some snacks to share. We will have snacks available throughout the weekend. Some basics will be provided by the planning team, but we hope that you'll bring along some things to share with others. We will have access to a refrigerator for storage. (note: alcohol is not allowed in the public areas of the retreat center. It can be in the housing areas, but not in our meeting rooms or in the outdoor areas.)
  7. If you have resources to share (books, printed materials, magazines), bring those with you. We will have a "book trading table" (which isn't required to be books, and also isn't required to be traded...you are welcome to take whatever will bless your life!)

Retreat Leader:  The Rev. Margaret Bullitt-Jonas

The cry of the earth cries out for prayer. It cries out for the recognition that we belong to the Earth and that the web of life is holy. Spiritual resilience requires that we hear this voice among the clamor of our day and gain clarity about how to act. How does God speak to us through the natural world?  What gives us energy and hope as we strive to repent and reconcile with that holy web?  How do we move through denial and despair into the joy of resurrected living?

Join with your fellow seekers, activists, and people of faith as we gather to pray, learn, fellowship, and clarify our resolve to live and act faithfully on earth. This retreat will explore a theological framework for “holding” our concern for the Earth, its creatures, elements, and people. The weekend will include presentations, guided meditation, small and large group conversation, singing, and free time.

About Margaret:
The Rev. Margaret Bullitt-Jonas, Ph.D., is an Episcopal priest, author, retreat leader, and climate activist. She has been a lead organizer of many Christian and interfaith events about care for Earth, and she leads spiritual retreats on spiritual resilience and resistance in a climate emergency. Her latest book, Rooted and Rising: Voices of Courage in a Time of Climate Crisis (2019), co-edited with Leah Schade, is a collection of essays by religious environmental activists. She has been arrested in Washington, D.C., and elsewhere to protest expanded use of fossil fuels. She serves as Missioner for Creation Care (Episcopal Diocese of Western Mass. & Southern New England Conference, United Church of Christ) and as Creation Care Advisor (Episcopal Diocese of Mass.). Her website, RevivingCreation.org, includes blog posts, sermons, videos, and articles.

Margaret's book
We have ordered copies of Margaret's book for participants of this retreat.  THANK YOU to Church Periodical Club for subsidizing the cost of these books and providing some additional resources to our gathering!!!  When you register, you can reserve your copy for $10.
