Summary Thank you for considering the Province V Leadership Coaching Project (LCP). The goal is to assist ALL leaders of churches to grow in spirituality and leadership capability. In providing coaches for leaders, the LCP can change the church. The benefits of coaching are well documented. It creates ministry partnerships to assist leaders in being connected and feeling less isolated. It helps them become stronger leaders in the local context. We know that leaders with coaches are less likely to be frustrated by the demands of parish life and more importantly, better able to guide a parish into future endeavors. Once you complete the training and become a Trained Coach, you will have the skills to assist laity and clergy in developing leadership skills by deep listening, encouragement, and asking powerful questions. Before applying, review the training, time and coaching commitment sections to help discern your availability to make this commitment. Applicants must recognize the significant time commitment and if you are unable to make this commitment at this time, please do not apply. There will be additional opportunities in the future. Training and Time Commitment The professional services of Chris Holmes, of the Holmes Coaching Group, will be used for training. Learn more at holmescoaching.com. Training will be via Zoom conferencing. Training takes a commitment of approximately 100 hours for coursework and homework. Pre-Training Preparation (10-15 hours)
Reading preparation materials, writing an initial paper.
Attending in-depth orientation on use of Zoom - it’s more than just watching the screen.
Securing access to a computer with video/audio and highspeed internet. A mobile phone can be used but is discouraged as it makes involvement and participation cumbersome.
Obtaining a headset with microphone and earphones for use during Zoom conferencing.
Training (70-80 hours)
Completing CASTS 1-4 coursework which includes: The Basics, Advanced Skills, Group Coaching and Synergy. There are 16 sessions of 3-hour Zoom sessions.
Participating in immediate post-training follow-up and check-in.
Benefits for the Trained Coach LCP training allows a Trained Coach to offer coaching services for a fee. This includes individual, community organizations and church leaders that are not part of the Province V requirement.
Continuing Education and Certification Trained Coaches may choose to pursue additional training to achieve International Coaching Federation certification (coachfederation.org). This certification requires the individual to perform:
Marion Franklin, MCC - The Heart of Laser-Focused Coaching: Heard her speak last week as part of an ICF Executive and Leadership Coaching webinar. She was excellent - lots of practical tips for new and experienced coaches. Just bought her book and can’t wait to get started.
Michael Bungay Stanier - The Coaching Habit and The Advice Trap: He’s very pragmatic and humorous (heard him speak several times - check him out on YouTube). His books are super easy to read but very impactful.
